Residual stress measurements via neutron diffraction of additive manufactured stainless steel 17-4 PH
نویسندگان
چکیده
Neutron diffraction was employed to measure internal residual stresses at various locations along stainless steel (SS) 17-4 PH specimens additively manufactured via laser-powder bed fusion (L-PBF). Of these specimens, two were rods (diameter=8 mm, length=80 mm) built vertically upward and one a parallelepiped (8×80×9 mm3) built with its longest edge parallel to ground. One rod and the parallelepiped were left in their as-built condition, while the other rod was heat treated. Data presented provide insight into the microstructural characteristics of typical L-PBF SS 17-4 PH specimens and their dependence on build orientation and post-processing procedures such as heat treatment. Data have been deposited in the Data in Brief Dataverse repository (doi:10.7910/DVN/T41S3V).

Effect of Cladding Direction on Residual Stress Distribution in Laser Cladded Rails
In this investigation, a laser cladding process with a powder feeding was used to deposit stainless steel 410L (high strength, excellent resistance to abrasion and corrosion, and great laser compatibility) onto railhead (higher strength, heat treated hypereutectoid rail grade manufactured in accordance with the requirements of European standard EN 13674 Part 1 for R400HT grade), to investigate ...
متن کاملMeasurement of the residual stress tensor in a compact tension weld specimen
Neutron diffraction measurements have been performed to determine the full residual stress tensor along the expected crack path in an austenitic stainless steel (Esshete 1250) compact tension weld specimen. A destructive slitting method was then implemented on the same specimen to measure the stress intensity factor profile associated with the residual stress field as a function of crack length...

Time-of-flight neutron diffraction, contour method, and surface hole drilling residual stress measurements were conducted at Los Alamos National Lab (LANL) on a lab sized plate specimen (P4) from Phase 1 of the joint U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission and Electric Power Research Institute Weld Residual Stress (NRC/EPRI WRS) program. The specimen was fabricated from a 304L stainless steel plate ...
متن کاملNumerical simulation of transient temperature and residual stresses in friction stir welding of 304L stainless steel
Three-dimensional nonlinear thermal and thermo-mechanical numerical simulations are conducted for the friction stir welding (FSW) of 304L stainless steel. The finite element analysis code—WELDSIM, developed by the authors specifically for welding simulation, was used. Two welding cases with tool rotational speeds of 300 and 500 rpm are analyzed. The objective is to study the variation of transi...
متن کاملLattice strain evolution during uniaxial tensile loading of stainless steel
Applied and residual lattice strains were determined by neutron diffraction during a tensile test of a weakly textured austenitic stainless steel and were compared to the predictions of a self-consistent polycrystal deformation model. Parallel to the tensile axis the model predictions are generally within the resolution of the diffraction measurements, but perpendicular to the tensile axis disc...
